Strait Removals, Torres Strait’s local removals and relocation service are now under new ownership. The previous owner, Kantesha Takai passed the business to fellow Torres Strait Islander Daniel Pedro on Friday 6th March 2020.
Kantesha established Strait Removals in May 2018 to provide relocation services to the Torres Strait region. It is the company’s goal to offer employment for local people. “Being 100% Indigenous owned and operated was a key goal for the business”, Kantesha explained.
“From the start, we knew how we wanted the business to operate and we were able to achieve that over the past two years,” said Kantesha.
After amassing a client portfolio, Strait Removals grew from a mere start-up to a thriving small business. As a result, the business received worldwide recognition for its services. Now,it will help another Torres Strait family. It will also be able to provide much-needed services to the Torres Strait community.
“Daniel came on board in 2019 as a subcontractor and after discussions with him and his family, he decided to purchase the business,” explained Kantesha.
Daniel shared that he had recently moved home to the Torres Strait with an entrepreneur mindset and goal of starting his own business.
“Purchasing Strait Removals was the most viable option for me. As a result, it has allowed me to fulfil my goal of operating my own business without the hassle and start-up costs,” said Daniel.
“Our company will continue to provide exceptional service to its existing clients. Consequently, I look forward to earning the trust of new clients in the region as well.”
“We will continue to uphold Strait Removals’ goal of remaining 100% Indigenous owned and operated. I’ll be looking to employ locals in the coming months,” added Daniel.
